Each family begins the cloth diapering journey for different reasons, and that is okay! Here is a list of the benefits of using cloth diapers for your children:

  • Cloth diapers contain less chemicals than disposable diapers do. Some of these chemicals have been determined to be carcinogens, alter hormones in the body, and have other negative effects on the body.  Dioxin, Tributyl-tin, and Sodium polyacrylate, are used in disposable diapers.

  • Cloth diapers cost less. The average child goes through 6,000 diapers in their childhood. Cloth diapers can be washed and reused many times and can even be resold as "used" or used for future children, disposable diapers cannot.

  • Cloth diapers produce less waste. While cloth diapers use  water to be washed, disposable diapers use a large amount of water to be produced, and  take at least 250-500 years to decompose. They also represent the third largest waste product currently in landfills. The manufacturing of disposable diapers uses 20 times the amount of crude oil and wood pulp when compared to the manufacturing of cloth diapers.

  • Typically, babies who are cloth diapered experience less diaper rashes than those who use single use diapers.
